Here, Salon Director Gary Carmichael answers some of the most commonly asked Balayage questions we get at the salon...

What is Balayage Hair Colour?

Balayage is the name for a ‘hand painted’ colouring technique and is not specific to any one hair colour. Your service and time spent in the salon can vary from a 'Full Balayage' to a 'Partial Balayage', depending on your overall desired result. For more information on costings, see further below.

Is Balayage Suitable for ALL Hair Types?

Although extremely versatile, this technique looks best in longer hair that is either wavy/curly or will be styled this way. It tends not to work so well in fine hair, unless a VERY subtle version is being performed.

Are Babylights & Root Stretch the Same as Balayage?

In short? No. Babylights are VERY fine highlights that are created by using foils. Root Stretch is when the actual roots are coloured to make them look more grown out or giving previous colour ‘more’ root.

How Should I Prepare For My Balayage Hair Colour Appointment?

There is no preparation necessary unless you are having your haircut. In which case, you're best to have it cut first.

How Long Will It Take To Create a Balayage Look For Me?

Balayage is very much a bespoke service, so the time it takes to create it depends on your unique hair type, length, and condition. During your complimentary consultation, we will be able to give you an idea of how long you will be in your salon chair - it may be anything from 1 hour to 3 - as well as a realistic quote.

Are There Many ‘Downsides’ To Having Balayage?

Recreating the ‘root’ area can be tricky due to the freehand nature of the technique - although you need not worry, the award-winning team at WESTEND hair salon in Glasgow are highly experienced in this technique and will ensure you have beautiful results.

How Much Does It Cost To Have Balayage or Babylights?

Balayage pricing depends on the Stylist level, amount of hair and overall desired result - as always, we recommend booking in for a free consultation prior to your appointment so you have a clear idea of what your service will entail.
